This executive summary shares insight and actionable solutions from our South-East London (SEL) Widening Participation and Increasing Equity in Health and Care Workforce project, which took place between October 2023 and April 2024. The overall aim of the project was to co-identify key barriers to job access in healthcare for specific groups and communities, and co-create solutions to overcome identified barriers and enhance diverse representation in our workforce.

The South East London Integrated Care Board (SEL ICB) is responsible for funding and organising the NHS 111 service for residents of South East London (SEL). SEL ICB is in the process of re-designing its local NHS 111 service with the aim of improving and better integrating services within Urgent Care. We asked the SEL people’s panel members and other people leaving in SEL about their views and experiences of NHS 111 to understand how the current service responds to people’s needs and determine how to improve patient access to care through the NHS 111 service. The initial phase of engagement was via an online survey.

Residents enjoy the freedom to explore nearby shops and take walks to Charlton Gardens.
